200th Anniversary of the Sovereign Collection

To celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Modern Sovereign, a remastered version of the 1817 iconic St George and the Dragon design features on the reverse of each of the coins. The design, by Benedetto Pistrucci, features the garter border, which has not been appeared on sovereigns since 1820.

Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense

The garter inscription on the St. George and the Dragon reverse reads "Honi soit qui mal y pense", which is French for "Shame be to him who thinks evil of it".

This is the motto of the Order of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry in the UK.

The obverse of the coin was designed by the artist, Jody Clark. It is the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The date notably appears on the obverse - the first time since 1887.

The iconic Bendetto Pistrucci St George and the Dragon design is featured on the reverse of each of the coins. Unlike in previous years, the design included the garter with incription. This has not appeared on sovereigns since 1820.
