The 1909 Edward VII Sydney mint gold sovereign bears the famous St George and the Dragon engraving by Benedetto Pistrucci. This 22 carat gold coin is struck in medal alignment.

The 1909 Edward VII gold sovereign was produced by five branch mints; the three Australian branch mints; Sydney, Perth and Melbourne, the Ottawa mint in Canada and The Royal Mint in London. 2,057,000 British sovereigns were struck for circulation by the Sydney mint.
The obverse bears the right facing protrait of Edward VII by George William De Saulles, his initials De S. are set below the truncation. Inscription EDWARDVS VII D:G: BRITT: OMN: REX F:D: IND:IMP:
The reverse of the 1909 sovereign bears the famous engraving of St George attacking a dragon which was created by Italian engraver for The Royal Mint, Benedetto Pistrucci. The mint mark, S, for Sydney is shown in the ground below the slain dragon. The date and the engrver's initials B.P. are in exergue.
