Coinage was not issued for Edward VII until the year of his coronation in 1902. Coins in high grades tend to be highly sought after. 1902 British sovereigns were issued by The Royal Mint in London and in the branch mints in Australia; Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

These coins were struck in 22 carat gold and were used as pound coins until the First World War. Two variations of the 1902 Sydney mint sovereign were issued, the circulated and the satin proof coin which is particularly rare. This sovereign is the uncirculated finish.
