This is the very collectable 'Australia' Reverse Sydney Mint Sovereign minted in 1861.
There was a mintage of 1,626,000 of the Sydney mint sovereigns of this year.
The Australia Sovereign was minted for circulation from 1855 to 1870. There were two portraits used on the sovereigns, both by L.C. Wyon, this coin uses the 2nd portrait.

With large amounts being discovered near Sydney, the New South Wales government sought approval from the Royal Mint to open a new branch mint based in Sydney. Their grant was approved in August 1853 and preparations for a new sovereign design commenced
