George III Shillings

This coin is struck in medal alignment with a milled edge.

There are two types of proof versions for the 1817 shilling, one with a plain edge and one with a milled edge which are quite rare. There is also an overstrike where the R of GEOR is struck over an E.

Slabbed Coins

This slabbed shilling is graded as CGS 85 which is the equivalent of the MS65. We would grade this coin as about Uncirculated.

Obverse

The laureate head of George III has been used on the 1817 shilling. George III faces right.

GEOR:III D:G: BRITT:REX F:D: 1817

Reverse

The reverse shows a crowned shield within a garter. The garter has a circumscription which reads:

HONI SOIT Q MAL Y PENSE
