1828 Gold Half Sovereign George IV London Mint

The 1828 gold half sovereign feature the bare head portrait of king George IV by engraver William Wyon, with a crowned shield reverse design.

The coin that we have in stock graded VF/aVF is shown in the photos. The grades on the photos are written at the bottom left of each photo. Information correct as of March 2023. We very rarely get these in stock but please contact us if you wish to double check the coin will be the same one as you wish to receive.

The 1828 gold half sovereign was the final half sovereign issued during the reign of King George IV. This was possibly due to the large number of this coin minted in 1828. 1,224,754 was a particularly large issue for a half sovereign. Interestingly, it was only the seventh half sovereign to be issued during his reign as the half sovereign wasn't issued in 1822.
