This 1894 Victoria Old Head Sydney mint sovereign features Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon engraving on the reverse.

Struck in 22 carat gold, this 1894 British sovereign was issued by the Sydney mint in Australia.
The Melbourne mint and The Royal Mint in London also issued sovereigns in the same year. A total of 11,016,485 gold sovereigns were issued in 1894, of which 3,067,000 were minted in Sydney.
The Old Head portrait is the last of portraits of Queen Victoria. Sovereigns were produced featuring this effigy from 1893 until 1901.
The obverse of this gold coin features the Old Head portrait, which is also known as the widow or veiled head. It was designed by the renowned artist, Thomas Brock. Brock also designed the Victoria Memorial which can be seen outside Buckingham Palace. Ithe inscription reads VICTORIA·DEI·GRA·BRITT·REGINA·FID·DEF·IND·IMP·
The reverse of the coin shows the classic St George and the Dragon engraving by Benedetto Pistrucci. The date and the initials B.P. are in exergue. The S mint mark in the ground beneath the dragon shows that the sovereign was struck in Sydney.
