This 1925 George V sovereign is minted in Pretoria, South Africa and is struck in 22 carat gold. The reverse bears Benedetto Pistrucci's traditional St George and Dragon engraving.

Since 1871, British sovereigns were struck at overseas branch mints as well as the Royal Mint in London. The first branch mint to strike sovereigns was Sydney in Australia. The mintage for Sydney for the 1925 sovereign is 1,837,901.
The obverse features the large head portrait of George V's bare head facing left, the portrait was designed by Australian sculptor, Bertram Mackennal. His initials B.M. are located in the truncation. The legend which surrounds the king's portrait reads GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMN:REX F.D.IND:IMP:
The reverse of the 1925 Pertoria mint sovereign features St George slaying the dragon. This classic design has featured on gold sovereigns since 1817 and is the work of Italian sculptor Benedetto Pistrucci. The initials B.P. sit to the right of the date in exergue.
