Like the gold sets of 1986 and 1994, the 1995 set includes a special commemorative issue of £2 coin, produced to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the ending of World War II, having as its reverse design, a dove in flight carrying an olive branch.
The portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse of this coin was created by Raphael Maklouf. The coin features the legend ELIZABETH II DEI·GRA·REG·F·D.
Benedetto Pistrucci first designed the engraving of St George and the dragon in 1817. It is featured on the reverse of the sovereign and half sovereign in this set with the £2 coin featuring a design by John Mills, depicting a dove as the symbol of peace to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
