Introduced in 1997 following the success of the gold Britannia, the Royal Mint started to produce a one ounce silver Britannia coin with a face value of two pounds (£2). Silver Britannias are quite appropriately, struck in Britannia silver, which is 958 parts per thousand silver, instead of the more usual sterling silver of 925 parts per thousand. Many other world silver coins, particularly those of European / American influence are struck in only 900 silver.

The concept of the one ounce bullion coin was to provide an easy way to purchase convenient small quantities of bullion silver in the form of coins. Additionally, the new one ounce coins, are an attractive design, made to appeal to collectors. The denomination, or face value, is two pounds. The Britannia is British legal tender and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

Obverse

The obverse bears the fourth definitive UK coin portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.

Reverse

The reverse type for 2000 is the classic standing Britannia by Philip Nathan and is reminiscent of the standing Britannia design used on florins of Edward VII.

The Star rating should be 5 stars

The Star rating is not just 4 stars but it should have been 5 stars that will not light up, I have spent a lot of time looking on the internet at gold prices most 1oz is mainly at current gold values. However sovereigns have different pricing up to a third more, yet I found Chards prices are very fair prices which I have bought 3 sovereigns this year.
