2002 Gold Half Sovereign Elizabeth II Proof

This 2002 Gold Proof Half Sovereign features a special shield reverse.

The shield reverse was last used for Queen Victoria from 1838 to 1893 inclusive. It is perhaps fitting, then, that the Royal Mint have chosen not only to change the half sovereign design for our own queen's golden jubilee, but also to revert back to the shield design.

Golden Jubilee Sovereigns

As always we offer proof half sovereigns at a significant discount from the official Royal Mint issue price.

For 2002 there is also an ordinary bullion half sovereign available, for only the third time since 1982.

Obverse

The obverse bears the fourth portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley with the inscription:

ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRA REGINA·FID·DEF.

Reverse

The reverse engraving marks the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The Shield design of the Royal Arms within a wreath of laurel was created by Timothy Noad, a herald painter at the College of Arms.

VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
