The coin is struck from 999 fine silver and has a face value of 30 AUD. It contains one kilo (32.151 troy ounces) of silver. It comes in a protective capsule.

Lunar Coins

The Perth Mint Lunar Coin Series began in 1996. Each coin celebrates a different Chinese zodiac sign, which each  cycle lasting for a total of 12 years.

These bullion coins have proven to be highly collectable, with most sizes selling out quickly.

The year of the snake began on 10th February, 2013. 

Obverse

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley portarit of Queen Elizabeth II. His initials can be found under the truncation. 

The text reads:

ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 
1KG 999 SILVER 2013 30 DOLLARS

Reverse

The reverse was designed by Perth Mint designer, Ing Ing Jong. The design shows a snake on a tree branch.

The Chinese character for ‘snake’ and the inscription "Year of the Snake" also appear on the design.The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark can be found near the snake's tongue.
