These 2018 Prince George's 5th Birthday Strike on the Day Gold BU Sovereign Coins were struck on 22 July 2018 to commemorate the fifth birthday of HRH Prince George of Cambridge.

This 2018 sovereign coin is finished to BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) standard. The coin was struck twice to give more definition. It features a plain edge.

Produced by The Royal Mint, the coin has an issue limit of 750 and is part of the Progress of a Prince Series, which celebrates important life-events of the young members of the royal family.

Each coin weighs 7.98 grams, struck in 22ct gold (0.9167 fineness) and contains 0.2354 troy ounces of the precious metal.

A great investment for collectors as these coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax and are VAT Free.

Prince George of Cambridge Commemorative coins

As well as the 2018 Prince George's 5th Birthday Strike on the Day Sovereign, there was a previous entry in the Progress of a Prince coin series in 2015. The Royal Mint issued a 2015 Crown Silver Proof Prince George's 2nd Birthday Coin to celebrate Prince George of Cambridge's 2nd birthday.

Prince George of Cambridge Royal Status

Prince George of Cambridge is the eldest son of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge which means he is third in line to become King of England just behind his grandfather Prince Charles and father Prince William.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features Queen Elizabeth II's fifth portrait by Jody Clark with the initials J.C to the left of the portrait and an inscription that reads as:

ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF 

Reverse

The reverse features famous Italian visual designer Benedetto Pistrucci's depiction of St. George slaying the dragon on his horse. The bottom of the coin shows the issue date '2020' and contains the initials B.P to the right.

These are not regarded as faulty or damaged goods as their precious metal content and value as a bullion coin is not affected. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.

Gold investment products are VAT free. Silver investment products are inclusive of VAT at the current rate unless otherwise stated.

All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out. 

If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.

Please note that all investment products are exempt from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and therefore customers do not have the right to cancel their order once the order has been accepted. Orders over £60 - Fully Insured Delivery.

  • Within the UK and BFPO - Next day fully insured and tracked. Delivery starts from £6. 

Orders under £60

  • Within the UK and BFPO - Royal Mail 2nd Class. Your order will normally arrive within 2-3 working days. Delivery starts from £3.50.

Postal Insurance

  • Orders over £1500 we charge a fee in order to cover the increasing costs of insurance. For every £1500 we apply a £1 fee.
