After the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his wife Sophie; a month of diplomatic talks between Britain, France, Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary took place.

Germany declared war on France on 3rd August with Britain entering the war a day later.
The Armistice of 11th November 1918 brought an end to the fighting and a ceasefire was declared on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month. The empires of Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary and the Ottomans fell along with the Romanov, Hohenzollern and Habsburg dynasties.
