Lunar Series Coins

These coins are produced on a mint-to-order basis, meaning the Perth Mint will produce the coins throughout the year. Once they begin production on the 2019 coins, they will release the mintage figures of the 2018 lunar coins.

Each year the Perth Mint's Lunar Series bullion coins are eagerly anticipated by collectors and investors looking for high quality bullion at low premiums above spot. You won't be disappointed in the new 2018 designs. There are no mintage figures for the 1/2oz, 2oz, 5oz, 10oz or 1kg coins, which are produced on a mint-to-order basis. The incredibly popular 1oz version has a mintage figure of 300,000.

Obverse

The fourth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of the coin.

Reverse

The coin was designed by Perth Mint designer, Ing Ing Jong, and shows a German Shepherd dog, lying in the grass, alongside a puppy.

The Chinese character for ‘dog’ appears next to some Chinese peony flowers. The peony is the unofficial Chinese National Flower. It stands as a symbol of spring and female beauty and reproduction. It also represents richness, honour and high social class. It is a favored flower for the 12th wedding anniversary. ‘Year of the Dog’ is written underneath. The Perth Mint mintmark appears on the right of the design.

These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
