2018 Centenary of the First World War Gold Proof 3-Coin £5 Set.

This gold coin set consists of three £5 coins, each commemorating 100 years since the end of World War 1. The coins were issued by Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. 

Each of these collectable coins is struck from .916 fine (22 carat) gold. The coins come in a luxurious presentation case, with a numbered cerificate of authenticity. 

The set we have in stock is number 22 of only 25 sets that were issued. 

Centenary of the End of World War I

World War 1 began on 28th July 1914 and lasted over 4 years, during which time there were over 9.7 million military deaths, and a further 11 million civilian deaths. 

On 11th November 1918 the armistice was signed, bringing an end to the fighting. The war was not officially over until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28th June 1919. 

The obverse of Isle of Man coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

The other two coins feature the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The text on the coins read:

The reverse of the coins feature designs by Mike Guilfoyle and Matt Tindall.

Isle of Man

A soldier surrounded by poppies. The text reads:

Guernsey

A soldier playing a bugle, with poppies in the background. The text reads:

"AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM".

Jersey

The outline of a dove of peace, holding an olive branch. Inside the dove are the numbers '11.11.11' in one wing, '100' in the other,and '1914 - 1918' in the body. Poppies feature in the background. The following text appears around the coin:

"CALM FELL. FROM HEAVEN DISTILLED A CLEMENCY. THERE WAS PEACE ON EARTH, AND SILENCE IN THE SKY".
