2021 Gothic Crown Quartered Arms 2 oz Gold Proof Coin Plain Edge

This is the special plain edge version of the 2021 Gothic Crown Quartered Arms Two Ounce Gold Proof Coin. This 2021 gothic crown coin is the third release in the Great Engravers Series.

This is the special plain edge version of the 2021 Gothic Crown Quartered Arms Two Ounce Gold Proof Coin.

This 2021 gothic crown coin is the third release in the Great Engravers Series. The reverse features the quartered arms by William Wyon, previously seen on the Victoria gothic crown.

The Royal Mint have confirmed they will issue the Victoria gothic portrait design, also by William Wyon, in 2022.

This two ounce coin is struck to a proof finish from 999.9 (24 carat) gold. It weighs 62.42g and has a diameter of 40mm. Each coin is issued in a presentation box, with a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Royal Mint. Only 125 coins were issued in this limited edition presentation.

Victoria Gothic Crown

The original Victoria gothic crown was issued in 1847 and 1853 (solely as a proof edition). Designed by William Wyon, the obverse featured a crowned bust of Queen Victoria on the obverse, with the quartered shields on the reverse.

The Royal Mint have confirmed they will issue both designs, making this a 2-coin issue within the great engravers.

Privy Council

We first heard about the coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and livery company statuses. The Royal Mint have to submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features William Wyon's quartered shield design. The crowned cruciform shields bear three lions passant for England, a rampant lion for Scotland, and a harp for Ireland. The angles feature the floral emblems, roses, a shamrock and a thistle. In the centre appears the Order of the Garter, bearing the inscription "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE".

The Star rating should be 5 stars

The Star rating is not just 4 stars but it should have been 5 stars that will not light up, I have spent a lot of time looking on the internet at gold prices most 1oz is mainly at current gold values. However sovereigns have different pricing up to a third more, yet I found Chards prices are very fair prices which I have bought 3 sovereigns this year.
