Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Chinese panda coins with these special 2022 coins. The first platinum panda coins issued since 2005!
These platinum coins feature a special 40th anniversary panda logo on the reverse. The design also celebrates the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, held in China, and features two panda cubs playing in the snow.
The 2022 30 gram platinum panda is struck from 999.5 fine platinum. These coins contain thirty grams (0.9645 troy ounces) of the precious metal.
Panda coins are popular with collectors as the reverse design changes each year. The thirty gram platinum panda has a face value of 1,000 yuan. A maximum of 10,000 of these coins will be issued, with less than 10% available outside mainland China.

Prior to these 2022 coins, platinum pandas had last been issued in 2005. In 2016 The People's Bank of China altered the panda coin weights from troy ounces to grams. This makes these 2022 platinum pandas the first to be issued in metric weights.
Most major global mints issue coins in troy weights, however, the People's Bank of China have used metric weights since 2016.
Demand for the Chinese panda is not limited to its domestic market. International collectors eagerly await the release of pandas each year and older issues are highly prized.
The obverse was designed by the China Gold Coin Incorporation (CGCI) and shows the Temple of Heaven. Located in Beijing, the site of worship is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Chinese inscription for "People's Republic of China" appears above the coin, with the date "2022" underneath.
The reverse design celebrates the 40th anniversary of the panda coin series. A special 40th anniversary logo can be found on the left of the coin. It shows the number “40” with a panda forming most of the zero.
The coin also celebrates the 2022 Winter Olympics. Designed by Huang Qin, the design shows two panda cubs playing in the snow.
The denomination of 1,000 Yuan appears at the top with "30 g. Pt .999".
