Royal Mint Official Partner

Chards is an official partner of The Royal Mint. Our 2024 Tudor Dragon coin range, among other Royal Mint products, are sourced directly from the mint's headquarters in Llantrisant, Wales.

Tudor Dragon

The Tudor Dragon is among the heraldic beasts linked with the Tudor dynasty, symbolising strength, bravery, and potentially the authority of the Tudor dynasty.

In heraldry, the dragon is commonly portrayed as a creature featuring the body of a serpent, the wings of a bat, and the legs of a lion.

In 1485, Henry VII employed a red dragon against a backdrop of white and green as his emblem, which appeared on his flag during his invasion of England. Over 300 years later the modern flag of Wales adopted the red dragon on the green backdrop as the Royal Badge of Wales.

The Tudor Beasts

The Tudor Beasts (also known as the King's Beasts) are a series of heraldic statues, which flank the moat bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The ten statues represent King Henry VIII's Tudor ancestry and his marriage to his third wife, Jane Seymour.

What Is Capital Gains Tax?

Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is a form of levies imposed on the profit garnered from the sale of assets, such as real estate, investments, and collectibles. In the United Kingdom, the present CGT allowance is £3,000 per annum per individual, which implies that one can earn up to £3,000 from the sale of assets prior to being subject to CGT.

For UK residents, bullion coins which are UK legal tender pound sterling coins are exempt from capital gains tax (CGT).

Obverse

The obverse features the first definitive UK coinage 'uncrowned portrait' of King Charles III. It was designed by Martin Jennings.

CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 25 POUNDS · 2024

Reverse

The reverse side features an interpretation of the Tudor Dragon, designed by David Lawrence. This royal beast is depicted holding a shield bearing the portcullis, which was the heraldic badge of the House of Beaufort and King Henry VII.

The design features a chain mail background texture, providing additional security. An inscription on the reverse reads as:

TUDOR DRAGON · 1/4oz · FINE GOLD · 999.9 · 2024 ·
