What are Kookaburras?

The Kookaburra is the largest known kingfishers. The birds weigh around 300g - just under the weight of a 10 oz coin!

Silver Kookaburra Coins

Silver Kookaburra coins were first issued in 1990. The coins were originally issued in 0.999 fineness, until 2018, when the Perth Mint changed the coin to 0.9999 fine.

Each coin contains 10 troy ounce of the precious metal and comes issued in a protective capsule.

Authentication Feature

The reverse of each coin incorporates a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the coin's design, which can only be detected when viewed under a magnifying glass.

P125 Mintmark

To commemorate the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint, these coins bear the mintmark 'P125'.

Obverse

A new obverse design, featuring the Australian portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, as designed by Dan Thorne, can be observed on these 2024 Kookaburra coins for the first time.

Additionally, the coin is inscribed with the following details:

CHARLES III AUSTRALIA · 10 DOLLARS ·

Reverse

The reverse side of these coins showcases a majestic Australian native, the Kookaburra, gliding over a gorge while clutching a snake with its talons.

The accompanying inscription reads as follows:

2024 1 oz 9999 SILVER KOOKABURRA

P125
