The 2025 Year of the Snake 5 oz Silver Coin is the sixth release in The Perth Mint’s popular Australian Lunar Series III. Each year, this celebrated series unveils a new design, and the 2025 edition pays tribute to the snake, one of the twelve animals of the Chinese Lunar cycle.
This is the first Australian lunar coin to feature the Australian coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.

Chards is a prime distributor of bullion for the Perth Mint. Our 2025 Year of the Snake coin range, as well as other Perth Mint products, is sourced directly from their mint headquarters in Western Australia.
In China, they will celebrate the Chinese year of 4723 when the year of the snake begins. Individuals born between the following dates are considered to be snakes in the Chinese lunar year calendar and are associated with the wood element.
Date: January 29, 2025
End: February 16, 2026
The Years of the Snake include, but are not limited to, the following: 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025, and every 12 years later.
Snakes are said to be intelligent and wise, and they are regarded as great thinkers. It is noted that the lucky numbers for those born under the sign of the Snake are 2, 8, and 9, while their unlucky numbers are 1, 6, and 7.
Here is a short list of famous celebrities, both past and present, who were born during the Chinese lunar calendar year of the snake.
The obverse features Dan Thorne's effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, a first in The Perth Mint's Australian Lunar series. The inscription reads:
· CHARLES III AUSTRALIA ·
5 oz 9999 Ag 8 DOLLARS
Designed by artist Sean Rogers, the reverse showcases a snake curled up beneath hanging leaves, with a backdrop of a hilly environment and a river flowing through the centre of the design behind the snake.
Like previous iterations in the series, the Chinese character for the animal is presented, along with the inscription:
SNAKE 2025
The design also includes the Perth Mint’s mintmark (P) in the left-centre of the coin, and the designer's initials (SR) can be seen at the bottom-left, resting just below the snake on the ground.
