The 2025 edition of Coins of England & the United Kingdom (pre-decimal) is the 60th edition and the first in the catalogue of books since 1929 to be published by Sovereign Rarities.
The Coins of England & the United Kingdom pre-decimal book series remains the definitive source for all major coin types from Celtic times to decimalisation in 1971. As with every new release, all sections have been meticulously reviewed, and the prices of over 3,000 coins have been updated to reflect current market conditions.
If you're an investor or collector of decimal British coinage, you may prefer the Coins of England & United Kingdom decimal issue, which includes British coinage from 1968 to 2024. This edition also features the new coinage of King Charles III.

First published in 1929, the Coins of England & the United Kingdom pre-decimal book is one of the most complete, accurate, and reliable British coin catalogues. It was originally published by Seaby's until the 33rd edition, which was published by Spink in 1997. Spink oversaw the publication of editions 33 to 59, with the 60th edition issued under the new ownership of Sovereign Rarities.
Spink was founded by John Spink back in 1666. It was originally a goldsmith and pawnbroker, based in London. The Great Fire of London burnt the original premises down. In 1770, 114 years after Spink was founded, the firm began trading in jewellery and coins. Two years later, the firm Spink & Son was created, expanding the amount of dealings with gold and silver coins.
In 1977, Andrew Weir & Co Ltd acquired the company. Since then, Spink has gone on to break several auction house world records and create a wide range of academic books.
Sovereign Rarities is a prominent coin and medals dealer based in London. They were founded by Ian Goldbart a lifelong collector and former director of A.H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd, one of the largest and longest established numismatic dealers.
Sovereign Rarities has a dedicated team of specialists who assist collectors in buying and selling rare coins and medals, such as sovereigns, as their name suggests.
