Chards is an official partner of The Royal Mint. Our 2025 Queen's panther coin range, among other Royal Mint products, are sourced directly from the mint's headquarters in Llantrisant, Wales.
The heraldic panther’s physical appearance is easily identified by the circular spots that cover its neck down to its curling tail. The beast is depicted as a powerful creature with a fierce, fiery breath capable of besting almost anything. This excludes the dragon, which also appears in The Royal Mint's Tudor Beasts collection as the Tudor Dragon, believed to be the strongest of all creatures.
The Queen's panther was commissioned by Henry VIII as part of the ten heraldic beasts that appear on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The ten statues represent King Henry VIII's Tudor ancestry and his marriage to his third wife, Jane Seymour.
Each Royal Tudor Beast coin in the series features a chainmail-like design with surface animation, allowing investors and collectors to authenticate the coin’s legitimacy. This advanced security feature sets these coins apart from other bullion coins that lack such protections, making them a more secure addition to investment portfolios.
Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is a form of levies imposed on the profit garnered from the sale of assets, such as real estate, investments, and collectibles. For UK residents, coins which are current UK sterling legal tender are exempt from capital gains tax (CGT).
The obverse features the first definitive UK coinage portrait of King Charles III. His Majesty is depicted uncrowned, facing to the left, with the designer's initials 'MJ' (Martin Jennings) placed in small letters below the truncation of the neck.
An inscription encircles the obverse portrait, reading as follows:
CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 100 POUNDS ·
The reverse depicts the formidable Queen’s Beast holding the impaled arms of Henry VIII on a shield, which displays the combined coat of arms of Henry and his third wife, Jane Seymour.
Surrounding the design is an inscription that reads:
