The D-Day Landings took place on 6th June, 1944. This was a huge invasion by the British, American, Canadian and French armies in Northern France. They bound together to fight the Germans which was a huge turning point in World War II.
In the darkness of the early hours of the morning of 6 June 1944, the first Allied troops flew in and made night-time parachute drops onto the beaches of Normandy. The plan was to arrive before the main landings achieve maximum surprise. The airborne landings were a great success, making a huge impact and paved the way for the rest of the troops arriving in their wake.
The obverse shows the forth definitive portrait of HM The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The reverses were designed by Mike Guilfoyle.
On this coin's reverse, the US Army 82nd Airborne Division begin dropping in the area around Sainte-Mère-Église.
This coin shows the beginning of the American assault on Omaha and Utah beaches.
Gliders with RAF fighters bringing in reinforcements and equipment are shown on the reverse on this coin.
