The 1994 Gold Proof Britannia Collection 4-Coin Set

This gold proof Britannia set contains 4 22-carat/0.916 fine gold coins in a presentation case and their own certificate of authenticity.

This year's set also contains a gold plated medallion with "Elizabeth R" and the date topped by a large crown, while the reverse design is a dog, the Chinese lunar calendar symbol of the year.

Gold Britannias

Gold bullion Britannia coins are the UK's most popular CGT exempt 1oz gold coin.Introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987, these British gold bullion coins have a face value of £100. Between 1987 - 2012, the coins were struck in 22 carat gold, from 2013 onwards, the coins have been struck in 24 carat gold. The coins all contain one troy ounce of gold, whether they are struck in 22 carat gold (0.917) or 24 carat gold (0.9999). We actually prefer the earlier dated coins as the quality of the striking is far superior to more recent issues.

From 1990, the mintage for the 4 coin proof sets has been very low.For the patient collector, many of the older sets which we offer represent a very good deal as they are at considerable savings compared with the current year's set direct from the Royal Mint.

Obverse

The obverse features Raphael Maklouf's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II and is inscribed:

ELIZABETH II • DEI • GRATIA • REGINA • F • D • 100 POUNDS

Reverse

The reverse features Philip Nathan's iconic design of a standing Lady Britannia holding her shield and trident.

These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
