Chards is an official partner of The Royal Mint. Our best value Sovereign gold coin range, among other Royal Mint products, are sourced directly from their mint headquarters in Llantrisant, Wales.
Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert was born on the 3rd of June 1865, the second Son of Albert Edward Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) and Alexandra of Denmark. George V's reign was one of great social and political change, in Britain, but especially in Europe, where most other monarchies collapsed in the wake of the First World War.
George V's legacy is one of modernising the monarchy so that it became the apolitical symbol of the nation that it is today. Although it's position seemed precarious in the early years following the war, by the time of his death in 1936, the danger to the throne had largely passed, and the monarchy was enjoying a renewed popularity.
All bullion coins are bought and sold based on their metal content. There may be wear and edge knocks on the coins which does not take away from the technical specifications. If you wish to buy a better condition coin, please browse through our graded sovereigns.
If you are looking for our cheapest bullion sovereigns, please see our Sovereign Bullion Best Value - Secondary Market product page.
George V sovereigns were issued between 1911 and 1932. Bullion sovereigns are a great way to increase your gold investment portfolio.
The obverse design shows King George V. It was designed by the Australian sculptor, Edgar Bertram Mackennal. He was most often referred to as Bertram Mackennal, and the initials "BM" appear in the truncated neck.
The reverse design features the iconic image of St George slaying the dragon. This was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci, and first appeared on the coins in 1817.
