The Obverse of the coin features William Wyon's portrait of a youthful Queen Victoria. This portrait was used on sovereigns from the beginning of her reign till 1887 when the Jubilee portrait replaced it.

The reverse design shows the crowned shield by Jean Baptiste Merlen
