1873 Gold Sovereign Victoria Young Head London

This 1873 Victoria Young Head Sovereign depicts the St. George and Dragon design or the Royal Coat of Arms on the reverse. This sovereign was minted at the London branch of The Royal Mint.

Young Head Sovereigns

Victoria Young Head Sovereigns were issued for Queen Victoria in almost every year from 1838 to 1901. There were three main obverse (head) designs, and two reverse designs. The Young Head was produced from 1837 to 1887 inclusive, with the St George reverse being produced from 1871-1887. This 1873 British sovereign has also been minted at the Australian branch mints in Melbourne and Sydney.

Obverse

The obverse depicts the William Wyon young head portrait of Queen Victoria.

Reverse

The reverse shows the St. George & Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci. The horse is a long tail with a small B.P. to the side of the date.

The Star rating should be 5 stars

The Star rating is not just 4 stars but it should have been 5 stars that will not light up, I have spent a lot of time looking on the internet at gold prices most 1oz is mainly at current gold values. However sovereigns have different pricing up to a third more, yet I found Chards prices are very fair prices which I have bought 3 sovereigns this year.
