Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee

On the 20th June 1837 Queen Victoria ascended to the throne following the death of her Uncle King William IV. She would go on to achieve her Golden Jubilee on the 20th June 1887 and celebrated with a 2 day celebration on the 20th-21st June 1887.  To commemorate this significant milestone, a new obverse was designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm. This resulted in their now being two portraits of Queen Victoria on Sovereigns in circulation at the time.
