1895 Victoria Old Head Silver Crown

There are two different edge inscriptions of this year crown, one with the regal year LVIII and the other with the regal year LIX.

The edge inscription will show under style, once a grade has been chosen.

Lower graded coins (fair), may not have the regal year visible on the edge of the coin.

The Veiled or Old Head Design

The Victoria Old Head obverse design was used on crowns from 1893 until 1900 . It was the third major portrait type of Victoria's reign. Called by some the widow head, this is not particularly accurate as Prince Albert had died in 1861, and the old head was not used until 1893. It is also frequently and accurately known as the veiled head.

Obverse

Older, veiled portrait of Queen Victoria, crowned, facing left. The engraver's initials T.B. appear raised beneath the head.

Reverse

The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's magnificent design of St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, first used on gold sovereigns of George III in 1817. The initials B.P. appear in the exergue to the right of the date.

There is no legend on the reverse, apart from the date in the exergue.

Edge

The edge is inscribed in raised lettering, with six pointed stars as separators:

DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI

Followed by the regnal date in Roman numerals. For every year, there are two different regnal years on the edge, coins issued in the first half of each year bearing LVIII, and in the second half of the year; LIX

Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.

The Star rating should be 5 stars

The Star rating is not just 4 stars but it should have been 5 stars that will not light up, I have spent a lot of time looking on the internet at gold prices most 1oz is mainly at current gold values. However sovereigns have different pricing up to a third more, yet I found Chards prices are very fair prices which I have bought 3 sovereigns this year.
