This 1917 Gold Sovereign George V Canada PCGS MS-62
Canada's Ottawa Mint operated as a branch mint for the UK's Royal Mint. Coins produced there can be identified by the "C" mintmark, located just below St George and The Dragon on the reverse of the coin.
This gold coin is graded by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) with the grade MS-62 which is equivalent to PF-62 from the NGC.
In 1917 the sovereign was produced in five mints: London, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Ottawa. The Ottawa Mint has scarcer sovereign mintages then the other refineries, with some being classed as rare or very rare.
The obverse was designed by artist, Bertram Mackennal. It shows a bare head portrait of King George V. The initials 'BM' can be found in the exergue.
The reverse of this 1917 sovereign shows Benedetto Pistrucci's design of St George seated on horseback slaying the dragon. This is one of the most iconic coins designs in the world.
