Manx Gold Coin Sets

This set is stunning and is one of our favourites. The Manx government issued gold coins for the first time in 1965. This three coin set comprises of a five pound, sovereign (pound), and half sovereign. It commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Revestment Act of 1765.

Both proof and uncirculated mint sets were issued in 1965.

The proof set comes in a square green presentation box with a gold foil motto on its outer lid below the three legs in a shield. The inner lid is also foil blocked with the following inscription:

THE FIRST GOLD COINAGE OF
THE ISLE OF MAN 1965
ONE OF 1,000 PROOF SETS

Please note that the coins in these sets are *almost FDC, there may be some very small light surface marks. In 1965, it was not standard practice to package proof coins in plastic capsules, the coins often came out of there recesses and were allowed to scratch each other.

Obverse

The obverse features Thomas Humphrey Paget's uncouped coin portrait of Elizabeth II. Paget's initials HP are positioned below the bust. Paget designed the coin portraits for Edward VIII and George VI. George VI's portrait is often referred to as 'classic coinage head of the 20th century'.

The coin bears the inscription:

BICENTENARY OF THE REVESTMENT ACT 1765 1965.

Reverse

Designed by John Hobson Nicholson, the reverse engraving features the Isle of Man coat of arms with the famous three triskele, armoured and spurred legs within the curved triangular shield. The engraver's initials JHN are positioned below the border of a Celtic braid which represents the island's Celtic and Norse origins.

The reverse bears the legend:

QUOCUNQUE · JECERIS · STABIT · 1965 ·

Bullion coins are provided as is and on occasion may have some minor scratches or edge knocks. These are not regarded as faulty or damaged goods as their precious metal content and value as a bullion coin is not affected. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.

Gold investment products are VAT free. Silver investment products are inclusive of VAT at the current rate unless otherwise stated.

All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out.

If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.

Please note that all investment products are exempt from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and therefore customers do not have the right to cancel their order once the order has been accepted. If customers no longer wish to go ahead with their investment purchase, there is an option to sell the products back to Chard (1964) Ltd instead. View our current buy back prices.
