This 1990 Gold 1 Ounce Kangaroo Nugget $100 Bullion Coin was minted by The Perth Mint in Australia. These coins were produced after the Perth Mint followed suite of the SA & Rand Refinery's Krugerrands; with their own coin, representing their Nation.

The 1990 Reverse design was the first of this series to feature a Kangaroo, previously these coins were known to have the 'Welcome Stranger' nugget depecited on it.

The Reverse design depicts a Red Kangaroo, the largest kangaroo native to Australia. They are known for their incredible jumping ability and speed.

The 1990 Red Kangaroo Nugget Coin had a maximum mintage of 300,000 and sold out!

Red Kangaroos

A male Red Kangaroo (Buck) can grow to 6 feet (1.8m)  tall whilst the females (Doe) typically grow 4-5 feet (1.22m-1.52m) tall. They can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour) and can cover 25 feet (7.6 meters) in a single leap!

Why is the Nugget popular?

The Gold Nugget coin series was first introduced in 1986 as a competitor to other Countries coins such as the Maple, Krugerrand and Britannia. The Nugget series originally started with having famous gold nuggets discovered in Australia on the reverse. In 1989 they produced a nugget reverse design and a kangaroo reverse design. From 1990 onwards all proof and bullion designs now have a kangaroo on the reverse.
