This Bullion Eagle was first introduced in 1986 and proved heavily popular with Bullion investors, thus growing the demand for more Eagle bullion coins to be struck.
The US Mint are in charge of producing all of the US coins that are traded within the country. As well as being in control of the movement of the coins, it conducts commerce and trade within the USA. However the US Mint are not in control of producing paper money, that is down to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
On the obverse we see the majestic figure of Lady Liberty holding a torch within her right hand & an olive branch in her left. We see 'ASG' engraved within the obverse, this is the desingers initials - Augustus Saint-Gauden. The obverse reads:

On the reverse it bears the inscription:
