Buy the 2004 Isle of Man Cat Fifth Ounce Gold Coin. This coin features two Tonkinese kittens playing with a butterfly.
We tend to call the Isle of Man 'Cat' series of crowns 'Manx Cats', but this is quite incorrect in a feline sense, perhaps we would be more accurate if we called them 'Isle of Man Cats'. Cat lovers will know that Manx cats are famous for having no tails.
First introduced in 1988, the Cat series has become a favourite coin for cat lovers. Struck in 24 carat gold (0.9999) fineness, these proof coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. Sold at a low premium above gold spot, they make an interesting choice for both investors and collectors.
The 2004 coins feature the Tonkinese kittens. The Tonkinese cat is a cross-breed between the Burmese and the Siamese cats. They are known for their lively, playful personalities.
The obverse features a portrait of Elizabeth II facing right by Ian Rank-Broadley. The coin bears the inscription:
ELIZABETH II ISLE OF MAN 2004
The reverse bears an engraving of two Tonkinese kittens trying to catch a butterfly.
