This gold proof one-pound British legal tender coin was struck in 22 carat gold (0.9167 Fineness) and comes with a presentation box and certificate of authenticity.
The Menai Straits Bridge is a suspension bridge that connects Wales to the island of Anglesey. It was built in 1826 and at the time of completion, it was the biggest suspension bridge in the world! The bridge became instrumental in reducing the journey time from Holyhead to London. The route had gained popularity following the Act of the Union with Ireland, making the route popular with politicans comuting from Ireland to London and vice verse.
This is the second Gold Proof Coin in a series of four original designs featuring bridges within each of the four home nations. The British Bridge One Pound collection is the first time the modern gold proof one pound coin has been offered as an individual piece.
The obverse bears the right facing portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The engraver's initials IRB are below the truncated neck. The coin bears the inscription:

The reverse bears the Welsh Menai Straits bridge engraving with a border of struts by Edwina Ellis. This coin bears the denomination:
