Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) on 6th February 2012. Many mints from around the Commonwealth issued coins in her honour, including Australia's Perth Mint.
Chards had some input into the design of this one kilo gold coin, after speaking with The Perth Mint at The World Money Fair in Berlin. Knowing that The Perth Mint are always good value, and issue high-quality coins, we decided to take the plunge and buy almost the entire mintage. The coins were sold exclusively by Chards and The Perth Mint!
Elizabeth II ascended the British throne on 6th February 1952 after the sudden death of her father, King George VI She was not officially crowned until 2nd June, 1953.
In 2012 the Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. She is only the second British monarch to have reached this milestone event, with Queen Victoria having celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
The obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of the Queen, with the inscription:
ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1KG .999 GOLD 2012 3000 DOLLARS
