This is limited edition 2013 gold proof fifty pence coin marks the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Benjamin Britten, the iconic English composer. Struck in 22 carat gold fineness, this is one of only 150 coins minted.
Proof coins are struck using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks. This produces a high quality finish with a beautifully defined engraving. The 2013 Benjamin Britten gold proof fifty pence comes in the original Royal Mint presentation box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Born in November 1913, Benjamin Britten wrote around 75 hours of music, a remarkable and wide range of work ranging across many different moods and genres. His talents as a conductor and pianist were also well recognised. Even after his death which was in 1976 his reputation as one of the greatest musicans has lived on.
Gold proof fifty pences are often issued with low mintages which makes them highly desireable to coin collectors. The fifty pence is British legal tender and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
