In 2014, the Perth Mint released a brand new 1oz silver bullion coin - the Crocodile. This was the first coin in a planned new series from the Perth Mint. The Perth Mint stopped minting the coins in 2015 with the Funnel-Web coins. They were instead replaced with the new Kangaroo series.
This coin comes loose and you can add a 41mm capsule and gift wrapping to your order in the basket.
Please note that some of these silver bullion products may have natural toning due to their date.
The coin features the Australian Saltwater Crocodile, which is the largest reptile in the world (in terms of body mass). The Saltwater Crocodile can be found in northern Australia, Southeast Asia and the east coast of India. They can weigh over 2,200 pounds and some males can grow to over 21 feet in length, whilst females generally reach 10 feet. They not only inhabit saltwater, but also fresh, brackish and saline water in ponds, swamps, lakes, creeks, streams, rivers, billabongs and the ocean. The crocodile propels itself through water at a surprising speed, making it a formidable and dangerous animal. It is an opportunistic predator and kills almost any animal that enters its territory. They are the most dangerous species of crocodiles to humans, due to their size.
Unlike other bullion Perth Mint coins, the Crocodiles do not come in capsules. They are supplied to us in protective tubes; order in multiples of 25 and receive a free storage tube to protect your coins. If you do order fewer coins, they will be supplied loose.
The problem we have found when packaging the tubes, is that there is a gap at the top, meaning the coins rattle around inside. We don't like sending items through the post like this, so we open the tubes in order to secure the coins and stop the rattling. We have spoken to the Perth Mint about the problem with the tubes and we will update this page when we have more information.
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse features a large Saltwater Crocodile displaying its sharp teeth. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark can be found underneath the crocodile.
