The 2016 2 oz Gold Proof High Relief Kimberley Sunrise Coin.
This Kimberley Sunrise coin is struck in 99.99% gold and is set with a fine white diamond which symbolises the light from a morning sunrise as a new day begins. It could also be considered a companion to the 2015 Kimberley Sunset coin.
They have a limited mintage of 500 coins and have a monetary denomination of AU$500.
The Kimberley is the stunning wilderness which lies in the far north of Western Australia. This outback region features waterfalls, cave systems, gorges, rock formations, sandy beaches, lush rainforests and wildlife.
The spectacular sunsets often ignite the evening sky with pink, red, orange, blue and purpple hues. These sunsets were the inspiration for the 2015 Kimberley Sunset Coin which was struck in 22-carat "pink" gold and set with an Argyle pink diamond.
The 2016 features a mirror image of the original design sybolising the dawn of a new day. This sunrise is also represented by the use of 24-carat gold as opposed to the 22-carat used in the Sunset coin.
The obverse features Ian Rank Broadley's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II and is inscribed:
ELIZABETH II • AUSTRALIA • 500 DOLLARS
The reverse of the coin depicts the boab tree amid a Kimberley landscape at sunrise with a fine white diamond representing the sun. It also bears the inscription:
