In addition, the Rand Refinery is a recognised full member of the prestigious London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), signifying that it has met specific criteria and requirements set by the LBMA to attain full membership status.
Gold & Silver Coin Offerings
When discussing products from the South African Mint, it's impossible not to start with their best-selling product; the gold Krugerrand. Having sold over 60 million ounces, the gold Krugerrand stands as the most widely traded and trusted gold bullion coin worldwide. In 2017, to celebrate 50 years since the release of the gold coin, silver Krugerrands were issued and are now produced annually alongside the gold version. This offers an additional investment option for silver investors and features the iconic design of the iconic Springbok Antelope.
The South African Mint doesn't solely produce Krugerrands; they also offer a range of bullion coin series, such as their Natura series. These were the first 24-carat gold bullion coins produced by the South African Mint in 1994. Each coin in the series showcases native animals of South Africa on the coin's obverse and has been split into numerous sub-series, with their most popular one being 'The Big Five,' showcasing the five most iconic animals found in South Africa.

Krugerrand Coins
The Krugerrand gold coin was first issued in 1967 by the South African Mint and Rand Refinery. This happened 26 years after the Pretoria Mint closed in 1941. This closure came after South Africa ended its ties with Britain and stopped minting gold sovereigns for the UK. 2 Rand Gold Coins
The South African 2 Rand gold coins were minted after the decimalisation of the South African Pound. Each coin was considered legal tender, and it is often regarded as the precursor to the Krugerrand, paving the way for the creation of most widely traded gold bullion coin.
These coins feature the same reverse design as the Krugerrand, depicting the springbok antelope. However, unlike the Krugerrand bullion coins, the obverse portrait does not depict Paul Kruger; instead, it features an image of Jan Van Riebeeck, a Dutch navigator who founded Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa.
