The 2017 Gold Proof Maple 150 years of Passion $200 Coin
This coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint and celebrates 150 years since Canada's Confederation. The coin pays tribute to the designs of early Canadian coins.
This is one of only 250 coins minted.
The coin is supplied in a capsule, with the original certificate of authenticity.
The former Province of Canada was declared the Dominion of Canada when the three colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were united into one federation.
There were many internal and external forces that influenced Confederation including the political deadlock stemming from its earliy political structure, an increasing population, and the cancellation of the Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty.
To prevent a possible "legislative vacuum" during the months between the progration of the Province of Canada's last Parliament in August of 1866 and the beginning of the Dominion of Canada's first Parliament in November 1867, the new Constitution allowed for the continuation of existing laws until new Dominion laws could be established.
The obverse features Susanna Blunt's design of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse features 2 maple boughs tied at the bottom by a bow. The St. Edward crown sits above the lettering:
