This Black Bull of Clarence £5 coin is part of the Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts range of coins. These coins are struck in brilliant uncirculated condition and come in a presentation folder.
The Black Bull is the fourth coin in The Royal Mint's range of Queen's Beasts Brilliant Uncirculated £5 coins.
The series will feature 10 coins, which will be released up until 2020.
The Royal Mint introduced a series of Queen's Beasts coins in 2016. These coins were previously only available in precious metals, before the £5 base metal coins were introduced in 2017.
The Queen's Beasts are based on the ten sculptures that were created for the Queen's Coronation in 1953 by sculptor, James Woodford RA. Positioned to guard the entrance of Westminster Abbey, the statues featured heraldic elements combined with mythical creatures that represent the Queen's ancestry.
Obverse
The obverse design shows the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark.
Reverse
The reverse shows a the Black Bull of Clarence above a shield showing the Royal Arms. This was also designed by the Royal Mint artist, Jody Clark.
