The 2018 Masterpiece Poppy Coin commemorates 100 years since the end of the First World War.
In partnership with the Royal British Legion, this five ounce silver coin comes housed in a presentation box with its own certificate of authenticity.
The coin has a limited mintage of just 350 coins. This coin is number 49.
In order to create this coin, Chris Bennet of TMB Art Metals scoured the former battlefields of Ypres and Passchendaele to find brass fuses from exploded artillery shells.
The fuses were melted down and formed into brass rods which were cleaned and melted down again. Once formed, the poppies were cleaned and polished in or order to form the centrepiece of the coin.
The obverse featurs Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II and is inscribed:
ELIZABETH II • BAILIWICK OF JERSEY • TEN POUNDS • 2018
The reverse shows a field of poppies with the main feature of a brass poppy made from WWI artillery shells with a red centre made from WWI battlefield soil.
