The 2016 Reverse Proof Gold Maple 4-Coin Set.
This reverse proof gold maple coin set is one of ony 600 issued and is struck in 24-carat/.9999 fine gold.
The set contains a 1 oz ($50) coin, a 1/4 oz ($10) coin, a 1/10 oz ($5) coin and a 1/20 oz ($1) coin.
Bearing the national plant emblem of Canada, the Maple is one of the most easily recognised bullion coins in the world. Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, the gold Maple is struck in 999.9 fineness, 24 carat gold. The Maple is issued annually in sizes typically varying from 1 oz to 1/20 oz - in some years a 1/15 oz, 1/25 oz and a 1 gram coin have been issued.
Maples were introduced as a 1 oz coin in 1979 and was followed by a tenth and quarter ounce versions in 1982, a half ounce in 1986, a twentieth ounce in 1993, and finally, a fifteenth ounce in 1994.
Each coin features a different potrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Susanna Blunt.
The 1 oz coin has the youngest image of Queen Elizabeth ever featured on a Canadian coin.
The reverse of each coin features the Canadian Maple leaf and bears the fineness and purity of the coin. Each coin also bears Queen Elizabeth's Royal cypher with the 1 oz coin having an enamel finish of the purple regal colours of the Queen's crown.
