The third coin in the 4-part Tower of London £5 series is the Yeoman Warders. This coin is struck in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes in a presentation folder.
Each coin in the series features an exclusive Tower of London mint mark on the reverse.
The Yeoman Warders (Yeomen or Beefeaters) have guarded the Tower of London since Tudor times. They are known for their iconic uniforms.
Every night they perform the Ceremony of the Keys which is when the gates of the tower are locked. The ceremony has been performed for over 700 years and is believed to be the oldest ceremony in the world. During the ceremony the infamous words are uttered:
‘Halt! Who comes there?’
One of the Yeoman Warders looks after the ravens and is known as the Ravenmaster.
The obverse of the coin displays the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Royal Mint designer, Jody Clark.
The reverse of the coin was designed by the artist, Glyn Davies, who designed all the coins in the series. It shows a Yeoman Warder, holding an axe, in front of a wall of the Tower of London.
When placed together, the 4 coins in the series create a plan of the Tower of London.
The Tower of London mint mark appears on the bottom-right of the coin.
