2020 250th Anniversary of the Voyage of Captain James Cook £2 Coin. This is the silver proof version of the coin which is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity,
This is the third and final release in the Captain Cook Series which followed the explorer on his voyages of discovery.
The coins are struck from 0.925 sterling silver and have a mintage of 5,000 ,with only 4,795 having been issued in this limited edition presentation.
When placed together the three coins in the series (2018, 2019 and 2020) tell the story of Captain Cook's adventure.
For this coin, the story follows on from the Transit of Venus, with Captain Cook travelling in search of the Southern Continent. When he couldn't find it, he ended up anchoring in New Zealand and Australia, becoming one of the first Europeans to have ever reached that part of the world.
The obverse features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse was designed by Gary Breeze, a designer and sculptor known for his letter carving. The design shows the HM Bark Endeavour close to a Maori canoe. New Zealand and Botany Bay can be seen in the background.
