2020 Gold Proof Sovereign (with Capsule Imperfections)

This 2020 Proof Sovereign was issued by The Royal Mint. The coins feature a special cypher mint mark to commemorate the 200th anniversary since the death of King George III.

The 2020 proof sovereign comes in a wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.

This full sovereign has a much lower mintage than in previous years. 7,995 of the coins were issued in their individual presentation boxes, with further coins as part of sets. The 2020 full sovereign total mintage figure is just 9,905 - the lowest mintage since the 2016 proof sovereign.

The Modern Sovereign

The modern sovereign was introduced in 1817 and has been issued most years since. The coins continue to be highly sought after by investors and collectors alike.

Proof Coins

These proof coins are struck to a much higher standard than bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give the coins the very best finish.

Obverse

The obverse of the coins feature the Jody Clark fifth coinage effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

The text reads:

ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF

Reverse

The reverse shows the iconic St. George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. This design has been used since 1817 on the reverse of most dates of Sovereigns, with a few exceptions. The Royal Mint have digitally remastered them using the original tooling.

To the left of the date you can find a royal cypher mint mark. This commemorates the 200th year since the death of King George III.

Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.

The Star rating should be 5 stars

The Star rating is not just 4 stars but it should have been 5 stars that will not light up, I have spent a lot of time looking on the internet at gold prices most 1oz is mainly at current gold values. However sovereigns have different pricing up to a third more, yet I found Chards prices are very fair prices which I have bought 3 sovereigns this year.
