The 2021 Gold Proof Half Sovereign is the smallest coin in the 2021 Proof Sovereign Collection to be issued individually. These 22 carat gold coins feature a special cypher mintmark to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 95th birthday.

Each coin has a proof finish, making these perfect for collectors. The coin comes in a wooden presentation box, along with a certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.

The coins have a mintage of 1,500.

The Modern Sovereign

The modern sovereign was introduced in 1817 and has been issued most years since. The coins continue to be highly sought after by investors and collectors alike.

Proof Coins

These proof coins are struck to a much higher standard than bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give the coins the very best finish.

Obverse

The obverse was designed by Jody Clark. It is the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to be used on UK coins.

The text reads:

Reverse

The reverse of this half sovereign was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. It shows the iconic St. George and the Dragon.

This has been used on sovereigns (with a few exceptions) since 1817. Over the years The Royal Mint have digitally remastered the dies using original tooling.

This 2021 coin features a cypher mintmark of a '95' inside a crown. This is to celebrate the 95th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

The edge of the coin has 94 serrations.
