This Gothic Crown 5 oz Gold Proof 2 Coin Bundle contains the 2021 Quartered Arms 5 oz gold proof coin and the 2021 Victoria portrait 5 oz gold proof coin.
Each coin is struck to a proof finish from 999.9 (24 carat) gold and weighs 156.3g and has a diameter of 50mm. The coins come in individual presentation boxes, along with certificates of authenticity from the Royal Mint.
The design on these coins is based on William Wyon's Victoria gothic crown. These coins are part of the Great Engravers Series.
Victoria Gothic Crown
The original Victoria gothic crown was issued in 1847 and 1853 (solely as a proof edition). Designed by William Wyon, the obverse featured a crowned bust of Queen Victoria on the obverse with the quartered shields on the reverse.
Privy Council
We first heard about the coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and company statuses. The Royal Mint must submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.
Obverse
The obverse of each coin bears the Jody Clark coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The text reads:

Reverse
2021 Quartered Arms Coin
The reverse of the coin features William Wyon's quartered shield design. The crowned cruciform shields bear three lions passant for England, a rampant lion for Scotland, and a harp for Ireland. The angles feature the floral emblems; roses, a shamrock and a thistle. In the centre appears the Order of the Garter, bearing the inscription "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE".
2021 Victoria Portrait Coin
William Wyon's design shows a crowned bust of Queen Victoria, with braided hair. Her dress is richly embroidered with the floral emblems; roses (for England), shamrocks (for Ireland) and thistles (for Scotland). The inscription appears in a gothic style script.
